Old Railway Bridge and East Leg

Abandoned Railway Bridge *

Here's the broken down railway bridge over the Fox River. I attempted to cross the bridge but chickened out as I got about half way and the condition of the bridge kept getting worse and there were open gaps that you had to go around. I'm the little red spec (my red t-shirt) on the bridge in the distance.

Close up of the bridge *

Here's a close up of this rickety, broken down wooden railway bridge.

Old Railway Bridge over Fox River *

One more view of the bridge with a little different perspective and a view of the Fox River below. This is actually the same Fox River that flows into Illinois and into the Chain-O-Lakes then into Algonquin, Illinois and runs along the Illinois Fox River Trail.

Start of eastern leg of the trail

There is one short part of the trail, here, that is paved, but it goes back to crushed stone right away. This is actually where we headed east to ride the eastern leg of the White River Trail ~ East of Burlington.

East Leg of White River Trail

The eastern leg of the White River Trail is flat and straight and really not all that scenic or exciting. The photo above is a pretty typical view of this part of the trail. There was almost no one on this entire leg of the trail when we rode it.

WRT east of Burlington

The eastern leg of the trail was well maintained but it got a little more rugged as we went further east toward Union Grove, Wisconsin. It was a nice ride but it was getting a little later in the day when we rode this and you would get eaten alive by mosquitoes if you stopped for very long.

East End of White River Trail

The photo above shows the actual end of the eastern leg of the White River State Trail. The trail just ends and does not actually get into Union Grove or even Kansasville (which I saw on the map). The map (from my GPS) shows the road where the stop sign is as Vanderboom Rd.

Heading back to Burlington on WR Trail *

And one final view of the eastern leg of the White River Trail as we headed back west to Burlington, Wisconsin.

Trail Intersection at Jucker Park

Once we completed our White River Trail ride and packed up the bikes we drove over to a place called Wehmhoff Jucker Park in Burlington ~ shown above ~ to check out another trail that runs out of Burlington.

This is where you can connect to the Seven Waters Trail and continue north-east out of Burlington. We will be exploring this one soon!!!

White River Trail Photo Tour

Here's the photo tour of the White River Bike Trail including the west and east legs of the trail out of Burlington, Wisconsin. This ride was from June, 2015.
